Look no further than social media to see that the ‘Let Them’ Theory is doing the rounds. What is it? Who coined it? & what does it mean for me? If you are as intrigued as we were, keep reading to learn more about the latest mindset hack that is set to be life-changing.


The ‘Let Them’ Theory has been made popular by New York Times best-selling author, podcaster & motivational speaker, Mel Robbins. Her TikTok video alone about the concept has amassed more than 19 million views. Why is everyone going crazy over it? Because it can be applied to SO many aspects of life – from personal relationships to work troubles, it has quickly become people’s favourite way to deal with the everyday stresses of modern life.

So, what exactly is the ‘Let Them’ Theory?


In its simplest terms, it’s a guide on how to “stop letting other people’s opinions, drama & judgement impact your life.”


Robbins states on her website, “when you ‘let them’ do whatever it is they want, it creates more control & emotional peace for you & a better relationship with the people in your life.”


Further adding on her podcast, saying “I don’t think any of us are aware of just how much energy & effort & time we waste on sh*t that we’re trying to control.” Touché.


This mindset tool is said to be twofold; the first part is about telling yourself to ‘Let Them’ during times of frustration, stress or worry about a situation or towards another person.


The idea is that as soon as you say these two words, you are releasing control – it’s understood to be the ultimate boundary between you & the world & is essentially an act of self-love, protection & energy preservation. The second part is then about saying ‘Let Me’ – reminding yourself of the things that are in your control, how you respond to a situation & what you do in response to your emotions.

As we enter a new year, may the ‘Let Them’ theory act as a constant reminder of the power of being in charge of your own happiness & not placing it in the hands of others.


Although there are some instances where the ‘Let Them’ Theory wouldn’t exactly work (like letting your kids do whatever they want, when they want!) – there is merit in having these two little words echoing in the back of your mind.
