This week on our Talking Straight Series we chatted with Integrative Health Coach, Spiritualist, Foodie & Life Lover, Caroline Høgh Groth.
We chatted all things health & wellbeing from morning routines & exercise regimes, to spirituality, authenticity & connection to self.
Here's Caroline.
SUPR: What does your morning routine look like?
I never set an alarm as I believe it’s important for the body to wake up naturally - that said, I usually wake up between 5.30am - 6am every morning. I then meditate for 20 mins in my bed followed by my skincare routine. As I spend my morning outside, I make sure I always, always wear 50+ SPF. Then my morning either continues with taking my dog Archie for a walk or training; either way, I always make sure I get a walk in to the water every morning.
Coming home, I make sure I always have my celery juice on an empty stomach and hydrate with at least 500ml of water + my medicine + supplements. By then, it’ll be around 8.30 or 9am, and I’ll start opening up my laptop to work for the day. I tend to eat breakfast mid-morning - around 10am.
SUPR: What’s one healthy habit you prioritised / embraced during lockdown that you’ll continue as we start to return to normality?
The importance of saying NO and slowing down. I have always been a YES person, but it hasn’t always been serving me in the way I’d intended it to. Learning to say no & setting personal boundaries that comes from self-love have been a game-changer for me and my health.
SUPR: What are five things you’ll always have in your fridge / pantry?
Pantry: Almond butter, Sesame Oil, Seeds, Tinned Wild Mackerel, Hemp Oil
Fridge: Loco Love Chocolates, Dates, Greens, Avocado, Oat Milk
SUPR: What’s your favourite form of movement?
I love Barre, Strength classes or Pilates - it depends on my mood for the day or how my body is feeling with my Epstein Barr.
SUPR: What’s the first destination you’d like to visit once we’re allowed to travel again?
Denmark or LA. Denmark is obviously where I’m from, and I miss my family during this time. It’s hard to not know when I might be able to see them again. And LA, because I was meant to be there in April to see my best friend when we went into lockdown and all plans got cancelled.
SUPR: What is one fun fact most people wouldn’t know about you?
I studied Psychology as a major in College and I was going to pursue becoming a Psychologist but something took me off that path. Interestingly enough, one of the topics I’m most passionate about today is Mental Health in a very holistic and spiritual aspect.
SUPR: Why is it important to you to be Straight Up and authentic? Have you ever struggled in the past with being your true self?
I think the reason we are here to live a human life is to unlearn the years (beyond this lifetime) of behaviours and patterns that masks who we truly are and lead us off our path to unbecoming our own true selves. The older I get, and the more I dedicate my time, my breath and my life to pursuing the knowing that I am more than this body, I am more than the labels society wishes me to be, the more authentic and connected do I feel to my true essence of being.
SUPR: The health industry is constantly adapting to external circumstances. What’s one health trend you predict will remain or appear in 2021?
I think we’ll continue to see the rise of normalising and including all body-types, race, ethnicity and more. I think the world is waking up to the monster we have co-created and how it’s time to now co-create a new way of being, living and breathing if we want the younger generations to be able to grow up with self-love, values and more. I think brands hold a responsibility they no longer can deny, and I think his responsibility will only continue to grow stronger.
