The health, wellbeing and lifestyle industry is full of some pretty amazing people and we're excited to have had the opportunity to chat with our good friend Beau Walker - former TV Presenter, professional surfer and entrepreneur for our 'Talking Straight' series. Here's Beau.
SUPR: What does your morning routine look like?
BW: My morning routines these days have 3 different starts now that we have a new addition to the family who is currently 14 months old. It’s either:
Get up at 5.15 am for an F45 session at Rose Bay, followed by getting coffee for myself and my wife, change the tiny one and take her for a walk so her mum can sleep in for a while or just get some downtime then it’s off to work after that at usually 9 / 10ish
Same as above but replace F45 with Morning Surf.
Same as first two minus the surfing or F45 if it’s been one of those nights which 'touch wood' doesn’t happen very often thank goodness!
SUPR: What does ‘health’ mean to you?
BW: Health more than anything to me means feeling mentally comfortable, having the energy to live life actively and be able to give others your best self. I used to struggle with anxiety and found meditation in my life that helped get my mind right that had a domino effect with everything else in a positive way. I have a saying that I live by - “Everything in moderation, including moderation” :)
SUPR: What are five things you’ll always have in your fridge / pantry?
BW: Mango. Honey. Chocolate. Ingredients to make Nachos at any time of the Day or Night. Apple Cider Vinegar.
SUPR: What’s your favourite form of movement?
BW: Surfing. That said I also have a love-hate relationship with Yin Yoga. I’m definitely going to try and make a habit of it this year as I’m not as loose in the muscles and joints as I used to be.
SUPR: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
BW: At the moment I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I grew up in Byron and now live in Bondi. I love the community down here and the fact that we live literally 100m walk to the beach, shops and bars on Lamrock Ave.
SUPR: What is one fun fact most people wouldn’t know about you?
BW: I’m adopted. My birth mum is a red-headed Irish lady and my birth dad is Nigerian.
SUPR: Why is it important to you to be Straight Up and authentic? Have you ever struggled in the past with being your true self?
BW: Of course! I think that everyone at some stage struggles for a while with trying to be true to themselves. It’s usually when you’re trying to figure out where you fit into this big world of ours. I think we realise pretty quickly that it’s exhausting trying to be anything but your true self as it is 100% the path to your greatest happiness.
SUPR: The health industry isn’t perfect. If you had the power to change one thing about it, what would it be and why?
BW: I would change the pressure it can put on young people about self-image and have a stronger focus on mental health and self-care.
