There’s no denying that the Media landscape has changed significantly over the past decade, with the shift towards all things digital, & new & innovative ways of consuming Media emerging. What has remained constant, however, is the power of broadcast Media. There’s no greater win in the PR world than securing a piece of mainstream TV coverage for our clients. We’re going to let you in on a few tricks of the trade, looking at some of our clients as case studies. Let’s dive in!
Leverage Key Calendar Dates
When trying to secure unpaid Media coverage, it is critical that your pitch is timely & relevant. One of the best ways to do this is to tie your story to a key calendar date or event. Our client & owner of Bodhi Restaurant, Heaven Leigh, has been featured on Channel 7: The Morning Show on several occasions, all linked to a calendar date that is applicable to Heaven’s area of expertise. Heaven has done cooking demonstrations for Christmas, Lunar New Year & World Vegan Day, just to name a few.
Stay On Top of the News Cycle
In PR, it is important that we stay on top of the news cycle so we can be reactive & share stories that are relevant to what is going on at any given time. An example of this is when athlete, Athena Martinez was badly burnt & injured, after a Cryotherapy treatment. This devastating event happened at a time when we were representing Cryo Science – Australia’s highest rated cryotherapy technology. We put our client & CEO of Cryo Science forward for an interview on Channel 9: A Current Affair, to share her insight on what went wrong in Athena’s session at another cryotherapy clinic & how this treatment should be conducted safely.
Use an Expert Spokesperson
Securing unpaid product placement opportunities on TV is a near-impossible task. Embracing our Straight Up PR way of doing things & mindset of ‘we don’t say no, we say how’ – we were determined to garner a mainstream TV appearance for our client, MOJO. To do this we leveraged the expertise of MOJO’s expert Spokespeople, Anna & Alex from The Biting Truth, to pitch a segment to Channel 7: The Morning Show about nutritious back-to-school snacks. This provided an opportunity for Anna & Alex to share some great kid-friendly recipes that incorporate MOJO Kombucha, as well as sharing some of the key health benefits. A huge win!
These are just a few examples of how we’ve been able to proactively & reactively secure pieces of TV Coverage for our clients. TV clips can be amplified through digital channels, which is where traditional & online Media come together to provide the best possible outcome & exposure.
